How does pregnancy & childbirth cause bladder weakness?

The pelvic floor consists of layers of muscles that stretch like a supportive hammock from the pubic bone (in the front) to the end of the backbone. However, hormonal changes, pressure on the bladder from an expanding womb, and childbirth (natural or by caesarean section) can weaken the pelvic floor muscles, leaving the neck of the bladder un-supported, resulting in life-long issues with urinary leaks.
