Taboo Busting? Brit Pop Icon? This is Megs Menopause Conference.

On May 21st, INNOVO® was lucky enough to sponsor and be part of the very first Meg’s Menopause Conference in London.

This conference was hosted by Meg’s Menopause founder and Brit Pop Icon Meg Mathews and was filled with taboo-busting, round table style discussion, and the sharing of the latest knowledge from Menopause & Women’s Health experts. The Conference was a first of its kind and we can’t thank Meg enough for speaking out, breaking the taboo and bringing women together to learn the essential information they need when taking on this stage of life.

INNOVO® & Pelvic Floor Expert Jane Wake were tasked with presenting a segment at this event on the impact of menopause on the pelvic floor and bladder weakness, as well as sharing the newest, trendiest solutions available for addressing some of the most unglamorous of symptoms.

So, what actually is the Menopause & how does it affect your pelvic floor?

The menopause is a natural stage in a woman’s life when she stops having periods for a total of 12 months. This generally occurs between the ages of 45- 55, but the average age in the UK is 51. As the menopause is driven by various hormonal changes in the body, there are a number of symptoms (over 30 in fact) that women will experience such as hot flashes, weight gain, vaginal dryness and bladder weakness – oh the joy! Thankfully, most of these symptoms can be managed through diet, lifestyle changes and therapeutic treatments.

For some women, their pelvic floor strength can withstand the hormonal changes and physical demands that comes with pregnancy and childbirth and it’s not until they reach their early 40’s or 50’s that they experience the awkward feeling of urinary leaks. On top off the changes that our bodies go through during menopause, bladder weakness is one of them as the hormonal changes in the body can cause the pelvic floor muscle to weaken, result in bladder leaks.. The important thing to remember is you are not alone, in fact 1 in 3 women suffer from bladder weakness and it is more common than hay fever!

Menopausal women who experience bladder weakness (or urinary incontinence) will most commonly experience either stress incontinence (leaks when you laugh, cough, sneeze etc.) or urge incontinence (when you have an overactive bladder and constantly need to wee). This may not seem like a big deal at first, and your first instinct may be to reach for your sanitary pads for protection or make sure there is a ladies room close by. However, unlike the hot flushes that come with menopause, this predicament will not pass. Ignoring and simply managing these problems is not the answer. Studies have shown that bladder weakness can interfere with work, social activities, sexual and personal relationships and can give confidence a massive hit. So don’t just put up with it. There is a long-lasting, non-invasive and clinically proven solution in INNOVO®.

Jane Wake shares some video exercises in partnership with INNOVO® on our Youtube channel here, demonstrating how to undertake pelvic floor exercises at home. These are a great at-home tool, but they can be tricky to master & very time consuming, particularly if your pelvic floor muscles are so weak that you’re unable to locate and lift this muscle yourself.

If this sounds like you, and you’re not quite confident that your at home pelvic floor exercises are having an effect, INNOVO® is ideal for women at any stage of menopause and is effective in treating the cause of bladder weakness. Let INNOVO® do the hard work for you. This non-invasive, clinically proven treatment can be used in the comfort of your own home for just 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week for up to 12 weeks. 93% of users found a significant improvement in as little as 4 weeks*.

We’d like to thank Meg’s Menopause once again for such an amazing day and helping to break the taboo on such an important stage of a woman’s life! Stay up-to-date with Meg’s Menopause latest tips and advice by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
