  • If you receive this error message when using INNOVO®, you should check the connections between the garments and the lead. These need to be firmly connected – you should feel 2 clicks when connecting these together. Ensure that the connectors are fully clicked together and commence your treatment session.

  • INNOVO® from Atlantic Therapeutics has been designed and manufactured for Bio-Medical Research Ltd, Parkmore Business Park West, Galway, Ireland

  • Femifree and Neurotech Vital Compact have simply been rebranded to INNOVO® to create one home to support pelvic floor health in both women and men instead of two separate sites. It is exactly the same device and technology.

  • Your warranty will still apply two years after purchase.
  • Please use the INNOVO® enquiry lines. The details can be found on our Contact Us page.

  • Innovotherapy uses a hand held INNOVO® controller attached to a two part garment. This sends targeted impulses (neuromuscular electrical stimulation) via a set of conductive pads attached to your upper thigh and buttocks, to safely and effectively activate all the muscles of the pelvic floor.

It is a proven technology which has been designed to optimally strengthen your pelvic floor with 180 perfect contractions per session. Regularly applying this cycle of contraction and relaxation will help to improve your pelvic floor muscle tone, strength, endurance and in turn your bladder control.

For ultimate results the full Innovotherapy programme involves completing 30 minute sessions three to six times a week.

Results from a study prove that women who experience stress incontinence will experience significant improvements in as little as four weeks by using INNOVO® five days a week for 30 minutes. After 12 weeks of treatment the participants were defined as having ‘dry’ or ‘mild’ severity of symptoms.1

  • INNOVO® should not be used if:

    • you have a cardiac pacemaker, implanted defibrillator or any implanted electronic device.

  • If you are one of the millions of women and men who suffer from some degree of urinary incontinence then Innovotherapy may be able to help. Please consult your health care professional for further advice. Or if you want to effectively strengthen your pelvic floor muscles to prevent urinary incontinence then Innovotherapy is for you.
  • There are three types of incontinence (see below) all of which can be treated by Innovotherapy. If you are unsure which incontinence affects you, you can contact us or consult your health care professional. Remember, if you are uncertain whether any treatment would be suitable for you, always consult your health care professional first.

    Types of incontinence:

Stress Incontinence - when leaks accidentally occur from coughing, sneezing, laughing, jumping or doing heavy lifting. These simple movements put pressure on the bladder and, should your pelvic floor muscles be unable to tighten enough, will cause a leak. Stress incontinence is the most common type of female bladder weakness. It can happen at any age however is more common during pregnancy, after childbirth and during stages of menopause.2

Urge Incontinence - when there is a sudden and uncontrollable urge to urinate, often with little warning. Symptoms of Urge Incontinence include needing to urinate often even in the night. It is thought to be caused by an overactive detrusor muscle that sends incorrect signals to the brain telling it that it that the bladder is already full, even when it is not.

Mixed Incontinence - it is possible to suffer from both types of urinary incontinence at the same time. One type is usually more pronounced than the other, and it is advised to treat the more serious type of weakness first.

  • Men can also use Innovotherapy. 1 in 10 men suffer the symptoms of bladder weakness at some time in their lives,3 commonly associated with prostate enlargement and / or as a consequence of prostate surgery. We recommend that men experiencing urinary incontinence speak to their clinician about how INNOVO® can help.

  • Pelvic floor exercises, or Kegels, involve voluntary contraction of the pelvic floor muscles. For many people this can be difficult and sometimes are not done accurately. Doctors also recommend doing 300 Kegel contractions a day for 4-6 months4 for significant results which can be quite time consuming and hard to keep to. INNOVO® uses targeted impulses to accurately and effectively stimulate the pelvic floor muscles with 180 perfect contractions every session. With each session lasting 30 minutes it is easy to fit into your daily routine and you rest in the knowledge that Innovotherapy is doing the hard work for you.

  • A strong pelvic floor can help to improve sexual function.5 INNOVO® can assist you to build and maintain a healthy pelvic floor through regular cycles of pelvic floor muscle contraction and relaxation.

  • INNOVO® treats the cause, not just the symptoms of urinary incontinence. While other solutions such as pads or absorbent underwear help to mask the problem, INNOVOTM delivers effective and comfortable targeted impulses that help strengthen your pelvic floor. The key difference between INNOVO® and other pelvic floor stimulators is that INNOVO® is completely non-invasive. This means that you do not need to insert a probe or cone to deliver effective pelvic floor muscle contractions.

  • If you have a medical condition and are unsure if INNOVO® is suitable for you, you should speak to your health care professional before using INNOVO®. Download our clinician brochure leaflet for detailed product information.

  • As you start to increase the intensity you will begin to feel stimulation in the muscles in the lower buttock area. The stimulation comes in phases of relaxation and stimulation, described as a mild tingling sensation. As you continue to increase the intensity level this stimulation will turn into a contraction.

The contraction will feel like the muscles are tensing and lifting. This sensation will move from the lower buttocks area forwards, between the legs along the pelvic floor giving you the same ‘lifting’ sensation throughout the pelvic floor.

You have reached a sufficient level once you can feel a strong stimulation throughout the pelvic floor. However, you should never exceed your comfort level. Effective stimulation should be strong but never uncomfortable.

As a guide we recommend working towards a level of 70-75 but don’t worry if this is beyond your comfort zone. Most people require a short period of time to familiarise themselves so only go as far as you feel comfortable.

  • With INNOVO® you control the intensity of the muscle stimulation. The stimulation should be strong enough to give you a good pelvic floor contraction, but should never be uncomfortable or painful. If you experience discomfort during your treatment session, you should reduce the intensity of the stimulation to a more comfortable level.

As with any treatment programme, it will take time to experience results with Innovotherapy. We recommend that you continue to use INNOVO® for at least 12 weeks to give you the best possible outcome.

Uncomfortable stimulation may also occur when your gel pads have dried out. You should check the condition of your gel pads regularly and replace if necessary.

  • Clinical research has indicated that INNOVO® users may start to notice an improvement after just 4 weeks of treatment.1
For best results, we recommend that you use INNOVO® for at least 12 weeks.

Find out more about the clinical research behind INNOVO® here.

  • For details on how to put on the garments, watch our INNOVO®instruction video or download the INNOVO®Quick Start guide and instruction manual.

  • If you find that you leak when you cough, sneeze and exercise, this is known as stress incontinence. This happens when the pelvic floor muscles that support the bladder are weakened or damaged.

Programme 1 strengthens the pelvic floor by delivering targeted impulses to improve your pelvic floor muscle tone, strength, endurance and overall control. If you find that you often experience a sudden and urgent desire to pass urine, and sometimes leak, this is known as urge incontinence. This is caused by over-activity in the muscle mechanism that controls bladder function.

Programme 2 delivers a gentle signal to the nerve that controls this muscle mechanism, helping to control the over-activity. It is common to experience symptoms of both urge and stress incontinence. This condition is called mixed incontinence. Usually, one type is more bothersome than the other.

Treatment for mixed incontinence consists of a combination of the Programme 1 and Programme 2. Please refer to the instruction manual for details of each Innovotherapy programme.

  • You can use INNOVO® in one of the following positions:

    • Standing, with your upper body slightly tilted forward. You may wish to rest your hands on a surface for support
    • Lying flat face-up or in a reclining position with your knees bent and your feet flat

For more information watch our INNOVO® instruction video.

  • How we actually feel the intensity differs from one person to the next. As a guide and for the best treatment outcome we recommend that you should aim to reach a training intensity level of 70-75. This level may be beyond your comfort levels at first, which is fine. Most people require a short period of time to familiarise themselves with the feeling of the stimulation so only go as far as you feel comfortable (E.g. 30-40, whatever it may be) and then regularly assess your ability to go up another level or two. If you feel comfortable you can increase the intensity beyond 75, however ensure you do not exceed your comfort level. Effective stimulation should be strong but never uncomfortable.

  • Don’t be concerned if you cannot reach the recommended intensity level during your first treatment session as it may take several sessions for you to reach this level. Some people may not reach this level at all, which is fine. Your aim is to reach a level that delivers as strong a contraction to the pelvic floor as possible without causing discomfort or pain.
  • Yes, some people will experience pelvic floor muscle contraction at intensity level 60. Once the pelvic floor is being contracted, the treatment will be effective but the stronger the contraction the better the results. For the best results it is important that you do 5 sessions a week for 12 weeks.

  • The treatment session is complete when the counter reaches zero. The display will flash “00:00”, the stimulation will be reduced to zero and the controller will beep to indicate the end of the session.
  • It is not necessary to do pelvic floor exercises while the programme is running. However you can continue with your pelvic floor exercises any other time.
  • If using INNOVO® to treat stress incontinence (Programme 1) you should use it 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week. If using INNOVO® to treat urge incontinence (Programme 2) you should use it approximately 3 or 4 times a week, every second day. If you want to treat mixed incontinence you should alternate between Programme 1 and Programme 2 every other day.

    Stress incontinence programme 1:

    Urge incontinence programme 2:

    Mixed incontinence:

  • We recommend that you use INNOVO® for a maximum of 30 minutes per day – the same length of time as it takes to complete one full treatment session. If for any reason you find yourself unable to complete a 30 minute session you can break it up into shorter sessions which can be done more frequently e.g. 15 mins done twice daily or 10 mins done 3 times per day. The goal is to complete 30 minutes per day in total.

  • An Innovotherapy programme to maintain a  healthy pelvic floor after 12 weeks will depend on the individual and their specific condition and improvement rate. As a general guide we would recommend you reduce the use of INNOVO® from 5 days a week after 3 months to 1-2 times a week. This will ensure that the results achieved during the 12 week programme will be sustained. One of the big advantages of using INNOVO® is that your awareness of your pelvic floor will have increased so you can also maintain a healthy pelvic floor by doing daily pelvic floor exercises after this time.

  • Ensure that all gel pads are making full contact with the skin with nothing in the way before you increase the intensity. If this problem persists, check the Problem Solving Guide in your instruction manual or Contact Us.

  • Watch the INNOVO® instruction video or read the Quick Start guide to find out how to charge the battery.

  • Battery life depends on the intensity of muscle stimulation being delivered from your INNOVO® controller, but it should be possible to get 5 – 10 treatment sessions from a fully charged battery.

  • You should replace your INNOVO® gel pads after 60 sessions or 6 months – whichever comes first. If they become visibly worn or dried out before this time then you will need to replace them. When this happens you will see a warning symbol on the screen, and you will be unable to carry out a treatment session. Replacement gel pads can be purchased here.

  • Please refer to the problem solving guide in your instruction manual. If you cannot find the solution here, please or Contact Us.

  • Please note that all INNOVO® product deliveries must be signed for. This does not apply to replacement pads, consumable parts and batteries.
